Most fruits are alkalinizing. Cranberries, plums and prunes are among the few acidic fruits. Because of its acidity, cranberry juice is a traditional remedy for bladder infections. The acids in the berries make the urine more acidic and less vulnerable to pathogenic bacteria. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that large quantities of cranberries fed to healthy young men produced a mild to moderate acidosis.
